There are so many ways to cook Gumbo, from the classic Cajun and Creole styles, to the meats, seafood and vegetables added to give it a little twist. It all starts with a good Roux and my Mom’s Gumbo recipe is the inspiration for our Jambalaya Girl Gumbo Base with Roux Mix.
1 – Gumbalaya
Bring New Orleans right to your home – live stream WWOZ Radio broadcasting from the French Quarter, get a pot of Jambalaya and a pot of Gumbo cooking on your stove for a flavorful dining experience. Serve Gumbo over Jambalaya Rice instead of white rice for double the flavor!

2 – Easy Rotisserie Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Save time on the family meal by using the meat from a Rotisserie Chicken instead of cooking raw chicken.
You will need:
1 lb. Rotisserie Chicken meat, shredded
1 lb. Smoked Sausage, sliced
6 cups water
Follow the instructions on the box (boil the water, give it a good whisk) and dinner is done!
Other easy ways to cook: Instant Pot, Crock Pot / Slow Cooker, Stove Top
3 – Seafood Gumbo
Shrimp, crawfish, crab and/or oysters all taste fantastic with this roux. To prepare it as a Seafood Gumbo – add seafood to pot 20 minutes before cooking is completed.
4 – Beef Stew Gumbo with Carrots, Potatoes, Celery and Mushrooms
This is a hearty one pot dish using Jambalaya Girl Gumbo Base with Roux. Recipe submitted by Jan from Tullahoma, TN. Thanks Jan!

6 –Lagniappe Leftovers!
A little something extra . . . with all of these dishes, if you’re lucky you will have some leftovers, and Gumbo tastes even better the next day.
Here’s a twist that comes from Southwest Louisiana, Cajun country – serve your leftover Gumbo over Potato Salad instead of rice. It’s delicious!
